Travels of the Spice Finch

Why is there a bird on top of our logo? Our bird pays homage to the Spice Finch. Originally from Asia, legend has it that this friendly little bird made its way to Europe by following the spice ships, forming colonies in most every port of call along the route. Spice Finches are also known as Nutmeg Mannikins, because their brown and white chest markings resemble the pattern you'll see inside a nutmeg after you whittle away the skin.

Of course our appreciation and fondness for birds goes beyond the Spice Finch to birds in general. For us, birds symbolize the way spices have connected the far corners of the world. Traders followed the lure of spices to distant lands and brave and hardy birds followed them as they brought their treasures home. With their strong wings and penchant for using them to travel to far off places, birds show us how to discover new wonders in the world.

Following the Spice Finch can lead us to exotic places – whether we explore by traveling the globe or by experimenting in our own kitchens.
